The House of Hohenzollern is a royal dynasty of Hohenzollern, Brandenburg, Prussia, the German Empire, and Romania. The family arose around Hechingen in Swabia during the 11th century and took their name from Hohenzollern Castle. The dynasty owned 28 palaces across Germany. To meet the empire’s enormous demand for porcelain, in 1763, they bought a private porcelain factory, the Königliche Porzellan Manufaktur (KPM), in Berlin.
