Stunning Enameled Porcelain 19th Century Japanese Imari Plate
$75.00
This decorative plate is a stunning example of Kutani ware. It features two fan dancers in the center, surrounded by a brightly painted patterned border.
The export of Kutani wares started around 1868, at the beginning of the Meiji Restoration. The surface of a Kutani piece is generally covered with multicolored decorations, is quite heavy, and often features Asian personages. Also, gold is intensively used, although the Japanese never considered gold an advantage; on the contrary, its use was generally limited.
